MC Escher, the world’s most famous graphic artist. Born in 1898 and died in 1972.

He’s the chap that drew “Ascending and Descending”, which you’re probably more familiar with, of people walking up stairs and never getting anywhere

Apart from being a graphic artist, M.C. Escher illustrated books, designed tapestries, postage stamps and murals. He was born in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, as the fourth and youngest son of a civil engineer.

M.C. Escher became fascinated by the regular Division of the Plane, when he first visited the Alhambra, a fourteen century Moorish castle in Granada, Spain in 1922.

Tessellations, a funny word, it means a repeating pattern of polygons that covers a plane with no gaps or overlaps.

M C Escher became really interested in maths and drawing these patterns. They are fascinating and can really draw you in, pardon the pun.
